The City of Durham Trust

Durham does not need this grandiose scheme. Pulling down practically new buildings is environmental vandalism. No amount of heat pumps in the new development will compensate for the carbon footprint. They are using the excuse of smaller retail units and student housing, but both of these can be achieved with the existing buildings, as is being done throughout the city. Closing off a huge chunk of the city centre for two years, with all the noise and pollution of demolition, deliveries, rebuilding, will take years to recover from. I hope the trust will be opposing this scheme with all the resources at its disposal.
