Prince Bishops Shopping Centre Redevelopment

Citrus Group, the new owners of Prince Bishops Place [aka the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre] are planning to redevelop the site. You can see their proposals on their website.

The Citrus Group are real estate investment and development company based in London.

They are conducting public consultations at the moment. There is an online survey and drop in events.

  1. Durham does not need this grandiose scheme. Pulling down practically new buildings is environmental vandalism. No amount of heat pumps in the new development will compensate for the carbon footprint. They are using the excuse of smaller retail units and student housing, but both of these can be achieved with the existing buildings, as is being done throughout the city. Closing off a huge chunk of the city centre for two years, with all the noise and pollution of demolition, deliveries, rebuilding, will take years to recover from. I hope the trust will be opposing this scheme with all the resources at its disposal.
